Healthy Living at U1R Nurseries
Find out how we promote healthy living at U1R Nurseries. Throughout the day all of your children’s meals and snacks will be provided for you and there is no need to pack any additional items. Before your child starts with us, we will discuss their individual dietary needs, including allergies and we can cater for all.
Breakfast & Snacks:
Breakfast is provided between 7:30am-9am and is a range of crumpets, toast, porridge, cereals, fruit and yogurt. All children will be offered breakfast on arrival and can choose daily.
We provide children with daily rolling snacks throughout the day. In our youngest two rooms children will all have snack together but will have the opportunity to start to self serve and pour milk etc and will learn the importance of hygiene and hand washing. In our eldest three rooms, practitioners develop the children’s independence by having snack in small groups. The children will cut up and prepare their own snack such as fruit or sandwiches. They will also learn to use toasters, knives, ovens and microwaves and will learn to wash up their own equiptment, whilst learning the importance of hand hygiene too.
Dinner:
We also provide dinner too at an additional charge per day. This hot meal will be prepared and cooked by our in house chef in the soft play centre. The menu for this can be located at our Reception.
Baking and Cold Cooking:
Here at U1R nursery, the children take part in baking activities daily where they will learn to follow instructions, measure and mix their own ingredients, learn all about nutrition and a balanced diet and get to enjoyed the yummy treats once cooked. We make many different items such as pizzas, spring rolls and smoothies.
Zebedees lunches:
Zebedees are our provider for hot lunch meals, the company has a strong ethos in using sustainable produce, being environmentally friendly as well as meeting the nutritional guidelines for pre-school children.
Their menus cover a range of dietary requirements to ensure all children are receiving a well balanced meal, regardless of cultural diversities or medical requirements. Children all eat together with staff in a social, calm environment and are encouraged to develop their independence with using cutlery, scraping plates and trying new foods. The social aspect of mealtimes will be emphasized with children following hygiene guidelines before they eat, our staff sit at the tables with the children to encourage social interaction, conversation and good manners.
Please note, we are a no packed lunch nursery unless your child has a severe medical or specific need.
